About Nelson King
Established in May
1996, Nelson King was set up to reflect the values of the two
principal founding partners. We did not need to use our
own names, preferring Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King as
our inspiration. These two self-sacrificing heroes were
totally committed to making positive change happen.
Today, in our humble and more
limited ways, Nelson King helps make positive change happen
not only to the profits of our Clients through recruiting the HOTCATS
of FMCG, but also to the careers of the high-potential
candidates who stay in touch with us long term for access to
the best opportunities within the leading FMCG companies.
Headhunting board level and
senior Sales, Marketing and Category people in the FMCG niche,
we recruit for many of the high profile, world leading
companies. But we also headhunt for Clients with high
profile, strong brands not so process-driven or blue-chip.
This mixture gives us an enviable portfolio of brands to
recruit for across a wide range of sectors in FMCG.
What is FMCG today?
Fast Moving Consumer Goods
When Nelson King started 12 years ago, our Clients consisted totally of the big blue-chip
branded businesses that sold products selling fast off the
shelves of supermarkets: Gillette, Kodak, Birdseye
Walls, Lever Faberge, Allied Domecq, Kerry Foods etc.
Then we started to notice that
other companies, less traditionally FMCG, wanted to recruit
the skills and disciplines they knew we could find from the
large food and drink companies: Dyson, Sony and Black
and Decker and others started to use us to find high calibre
talent. They were selling through the grocery mults and
wanted our 'niche expertise' in their pursuit of excellence in
accounts, brands and category management skills at top levels.
More recently we started to see
even more widening of the FMCG niche. Home Entertainments
companies like Grenada Home Video. MGM, 20th Century Fox
wanted our niche expertise, as did Toy companies selling to
the grocers. Then companies selling ring tone downloads
and phone credit on plastic cards and wide screen TV's to the
grocers used us and the FMCG niche was blown wide open.
So now our
clients include the branded and own label manufacturers of
products to the Food and Drinks, (including foodservice), DIY,
Entertainments, Health & Beauty, Cosmetics and Fragrances,
non-food, Pharmaceutical, Toy, Electrical Appliances
sectors. And because of our unique headhunting referral
methods, we could search wider than these sectors too.
More and more the high calibre
sales and marketing people, trained in the classical FMCG
companies, are being appointed to the boards of companies not
so FMCG. These board level people respect the expertise
of the people they used to know in their old training
grounds. They seek them out through Nelson King who has
headhunted successfully in these areas for nearly 11 years.

Every single placement through Nelson King saves at least
150 lives in the third world. Nelson King donates the
money to APOC, The African Program for Onchocerciasis
Control. "River Blindness", once contracted,
has no cure. Victims can take up to 60 months to die,
with intolerable itching over most of the body surface and
progressive blindness. Yet a single tablet,
administered once a year, controls the disease, prevents
blindness and saves the life of the recipient. Nelson
