WHY NELSON KING?

Nelson King was inspired by Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King. These two self-sacrificing individuals created lasting improvement and empowerment in the lives of millions of people. No surprise then that Nelson King aims to help, empower and delight as many people as we can.

Ultimately, all of us are in service to people. The strength and health of the people on Planet Earth affects all of us as individuals. Our interdependence has never been clearer than in the last 3 years. To take care of our planet or corporate environment, all of us need to take responsibility for our collective outcomes.

HUMAN POLICY

We create the corporate environment within Nelson King that actively encourages creativity, contribution and feedback on our actions and outcomes.

We create the atmosphere in which all employees and partners feel empowered to improve their own lives by improving the lives of others. We add value to our clients by recruiting the highest calibre people for them. We add value to our candidates by finding them roles that enhance their lives.

We allocate resources from our turnover that alleviates suffering in the third world. Historically this has been by funding APOC, the African Program for Onchocerciasis Control. Onchocerciasis is ‘River Blindness’, a particularly nasty disease mostly prevalent in West Africa and Indonesia. Every placement through Nelson King saves 150 eyesights and lives. In the future, we will fund any humanitarian or environmental cause that our staff feel passionately about.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

SUMMARY
Nelson King will continuously strive for lower CO2 emissions. By the start of 2012 we will be carbon neutral. From the start of 2013 we will be carbon negative; that is to say we will actually be re-paying carbon debt from the past, not merely achieving neutrality.

GRAVITY
When relocating offices recently, we made sure it was to a building without lifts of any description. Elevators and escalators use huge amounts of electricity.
We opened our US office largely to minimize trans-atlantic flights of our staff.
Our flights we book with the only airline seriously researching non-carbon fuels.

HEATING WATER
Both the US and UK offices have fully insulated windows, roof and walls.
We boil minimal amounts of water needed for hot drinks.

LIGHTING
We use only energy-saving lightbulbs and use the least lighting we can at all times.

RECYCLING
We recycle all cartridges, paper, cardboard and packaging of any sort.
We use only 100% recycled paper and envelopes.
We choose our suppliers of stationery etc. that use minimal packaging.
We operate a non-print policy on emails and encourage non-print of our emails out.

NON-USE OF PLASTIC
We drink no individually bottled water.
We use the minimum plastics we can and constantly look for reusable alternatives.
